Traditional Zhao Bao Taichi Theory

Tai Chi Theory

Master Wayne Peng In taichi, the body, head, and torso are divided into top, middle, and bottom sections, while the extremities are divided into root, middle, and tip sections.

When practicing you should start your movement from the bottom or tip section of the part, continue to the middle or center section, and at the same time apply the energy of the movement from the top or root section.

Tai Chi Theory

Master Wayne PengAll kinds of things in the Universe, including stars, energy are move in circles.  Things are contrasting and related to everything else.  This is nature, taichi is no different.

Taichi is about qi, qi is vital force, they are the energy in your body.  There is only one qi.  We inhale and exhale qi, the energy of breathing.

Inhaling is yin, and exhaling is yang.

Stillness is yin, and motion is yang.

In taichi, you do not make any movement by force, but rather by nature.  When you are still, then be still like a mountain.  When you strike, then strike like thunder rumbling or a mountain collapsing.  Move as fast as lightning. When are still, your whole body is relaxed and your mind is not thinking about anything. When you move, your whole body moves together.  All parts of your body move in one direction.

The body binds all parts together into one, and they cannot be separated.  When your upper body desires to move, the lower body follows; when the lower body desires to move, the upper body leads; when the head and the legs move, the torso follows; and when the torso moves, the head and legs harmonize.  The inside and outside are connected to each other, and the front and back respond to each other. This is what is called the unity of all parts.

Tai Chi Theory

Master Wayne PengIf you shift your body to one side or lower your body, your center of gravity should follow appropriately.  Avoid keeping your body weight equally on both feet.  You often see people who have practiced kungfu for many years but do not understand shifting their weight, so they end up defeated.  It is because they do not realize their mistake of keeping their weight on both feet.  In order to avoid the problem of rigidity, you have to understand that yin and yang are constantly in flux as they adjust to each other.  Just as yin and yang can not be separated in their movements, you should harmonize your motion to the motion of your opponent, following as closely as if you were glued to him or her.
